Rugby and Daventry Fencing Club aims to ensure the safety, enjoyment, and fair play by promoting the sport of fencing and the wellbeing of all its members. The club believes that it is important that members and fencers, coaches, administrators, and parents associated with the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others. We encourage all members to support each other and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with the club secretary or welfare officers.
Parents/Carers will
• Encourage their fencer to learn the rules and play within them
• Help their fencer to recognise good performance, not just results.
• Collect their fencer from the sports venue unless a signed consent form allows the fencer to make their own way home.
• Accept coaches and committee rules during coaching sessions and competition.
• Always use correct and proper language.
• Not do anything which is likely to intimidate, offend, insult, humiliate or discriminate against any other person during training or competitions on the ground of their sexuality, religion, race, colour or national or ethnic origin.
• Encourage and guide fencers to accept responsibility for their own performance and behaviour.
Coaches and Volunteers of RAD Fencing Club will
• Hold appropriate valid qualifications and insurance cover.
• Prioritise the wellbeing and safety of participants before the development of performance.
• Develop an appropriate working relationship with participants, based on mutual trust and respect.
• Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability, and experience of those taking part.
• Promote the positive aspects of the sport including fair play.
• Follow all guidelines laid down by the national governing body, British Fencing, and the club.
RAD Fencers will
• Play within the rules and respect coaches and their decisions.
• Be respectful of all participants regardless of gender, ability, cultural background, or religion.
• Behave safely and appropriately during all sessions. Those whose behaviour disrupts the lesson so much that the other fencers are unable to learn properly or who are unsafe will, in the first instance, be asked to sit out for a short period. If poor or unsafe behaviour continues the fencer will not be allowed to continue lessons
• Keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach if they are going to be late or miss a session.
• Wear suitable kit – mask, jacket, glove for training and full fencing kit including breeches for during coaching sessions and competitions. (These can be provided)
• Fencers (or parents/guardians) must pay any fees for training or events promptly.
